Les passions tristes et le ressentiment enduisent une pente sur laquelle glissent nos sociétés. Face à cette chute glaçante, Pauline Boudry et Renate Lorenz proposent une grande installation en mouvement, conçue spécifiquement pour l’architecture et l’acoustique de l’abbatiale, qui se présente à la fois comme une métaphore et un contre-modèle. Leur exposition You ask me to not give up up up libère le motif de la glissade des ricanements haineux pour en faire un espace où la tristesse, mais aussi le jeu et la pure joie de la vitesse peuvent se déployer. Dans cette installation, on entendra une voix, celle de l’artiste Colin Self, qui chantera les espoirs et les défaites. Elle emplira l’abbatiale, qui par son écho, se mêlera à cette œuvre en renvoyant sa propre histoire faite d’aspirations célestes et de tourments terrestres.

Le duo formé en 2007 est reconnu pour ses installations vidéo, ses sculptures et objets animés, qui chorégraphient la tension entre visibilité et opacité, entre protestation silencieuse et prise de parole. Elles ont représenté la Suisse à la 58e Biennale de Venise avec leur œuvre Moving Backwards. Sad passions and resentment lubricate a slope down which our societies are sliding. Faced with this chilling fall, Pauline Boudry and Renate Lorenz propose an expansive moving installation, conceived specifically for the architecture and acoustics of the abbey church, which presents itself as both a metaphor and a counter-model. Their exhibition You ask me to not give up up up liberates the sliding motif of hateful laughter to create a space where sadness, but also playfulness and the pure joy of speed can unfold. In this installation, we will hear a voice, that of artist Colin Self, singing of hopes and defeats. It will fill the abbey church, which, through its echo, will blend with this work, reflecting its own history of celestial aspirations and earthly turmoil.

Opening a new chapter in their formal research, You ask me to not give up up up will be one of Pauline Boudry and Renate Lorenz’s most ambitious exhibitions to date. The duo, formed in 2007, is known for their video installations, sculptures and animated objects, which choreograph the tension between visibility and opacity, between silent protest and speaking up. They represented Switzerland at the 58th Venice Biennale with their work Moving Backwards. Other recent solo exhibitions include El Cristal Es Mi Piel at the Palacio Cristal / Reina Sofia, Madrid/Spain (2022-23), A Portrait at LEEUM Museum Seoul/Korea (2024) and All The Things She Said, Muac Museum Mexico City/Mexico (2025).
